Project rescue

Rescuing failing capture projects

When a capture project is late, over budget, or not working in production, you need someone who has seen it before. John has been the person called in to save troubled projects since the early 1990s, and for more than 20 years in document capture.

Sound familiar?

Signs a capture project needs rescuing

  • Go-live keeps slipping, and the reasons keep changing.
  • The system is live, but staff work around it.
  • Accuracy is too low, exceptions pile up, or processing can’t keep up with volume.
  • The implementer is gone, or the relationship has broken down.
  • Nobody can say clearly what is wrong.

What we do

Find what is broken, fix it, and keep the business moving

Rescue takes a different mindset than a new build. We don’t assign blame, and we don’t start over by default: most troubled projects contain plenty of good work. The job is to find what is actually broken, stabilize production, and fix the design so it stays fixed.

John has done this throughout his career: at Moss Software, Pixel, AVT, and Kofax, and since 2017 at Skiff & Associates. Before 2001 that meant CRM, point-of-sale, and custom software; since then, document capture on Kofax and IBM platforms.

  • Rescues on Kofax TotalAgility, Kofax Capture, KTM, and IBM Datacap
  • An independent, plain-spoken assessment
  • Production stabilized first
  • Root causes fixed in design, configuration, and integration
  • Work alongside your current team or vendor, or take over
  • Documentation and knowledge transfer at the end

How it works

How a rescue runs

  1. Assess. We review the solution, the environment, the documents, and the plan, and tell you plainly where the project stands.
  2. Stabilize. Production comes first, so the business keeps moving while the real problems are fixed.
  3. Fix the root causes. In design, configuration, and integration, not just the symptoms.
  4. Hand back. A working system, with documentation and knowledge transfer for your team.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can you step in mid-project alongside another vendor?

Yes. We can work with your current implementer, review their work independently, or take over, whichever helps the project most.

Will you recommend starting over?

Only if it is genuinely cheaper and safer. Most troubled projects can be recovered.

How quickly can you start?

Contact us and we usually reply within one business day. A 30-minute call is usually enough to understand the situation and agree on next steps.

Is it only capture projects?

Capture is our focus today, on Kofax TotalAgility, Kofax Capture, KTM, and IBM Datacap. John’s rescue experience also spans CRM, point-of-sale, and custom software.
